Image Processing: Basics

3D printing, also known as additive manufacturing (AM), refers to various processes used to synthesize a three-dimensional object. In 3D printing, successive layers of material are formed under computer control to create an object. These objects can be of almost any shape or geometry, and are produced from a 3D model or other electronic data source. With the advent of additive manufacturing, 3D printing technology is becoming widely available to everyone. It has become an easy and convenient tool to make Prototypes for designers, architects etc. This advance course is aimed to excite young engineers about designing and prototyping techniques. We have designed this course for everyone who is interested to know more about the technology.

It’s all about images.Image processing refers to the method of conversion of an image to digital form and the subsequent operations performed in order to get the image with desired inputs or results. It involves the manipulation and editing of images. Digital image processing is a vital part of Signals and Systems with a greater focus on images. Image Processing toolbox for MATLAB is the basic tool required when working on images. Other Image Conversion/Processing software like Adobe Photoshop can trace back their algorithm from this.
Industry
Applications of this field are varied and hence the industries which make use of this technology are massive in number. From the Digital Camera manufacturing companies (CANON, SONY etc) to surveillance and security agencies, animation and Computer Graphics in movies to scientific researchers working on image stabilization and pattern recognition. In more recent times the field of Robotics has heavily relied upon image processing techniques to recognize objects and control the tasks performed.
Students
This course is suitable for engineering students in ECE, EEE, and Computer science backgrounds. The prerequisite knowledge for this course is basic knowledge of calculus, probability, basic electronics and programming language like C++. Image-based technologies are growing in numbers with increasing usage in robotics, UAVs, photography, Many technologies with user interactive features and sensors need image processing. Hence with the advent new gadgets and tech every day, the career opportunities in this field is expected to grow tremendously.
